D ESIGN BUILD

| DESIGN BUILD | CUSTOM DESIGN | GOOD PLANNING | SCALE MODEL |

T he concept of design / build offers many benefits, from the ability to create a design which will not be compromised during construction, to the ability to streamline every step of a project, resulting in savings both in time and money.
Conceiving a project, from its inception to its final design and construction, is a process of extreme complexity, encompassing a great amount of data and skills that need to be properly integrated in order to achieve total satisfaction when the project is complete.
Normally, a building project is shared among the client, the designers, the architects, the engineers, and the contractors. Choosing the right people to do the job could be a difficult, time consuming and disappointing venture. You might have found a designer with a nice design, an architect that will draw it, engineers that will approve its structural integrity, and a cast of sub contractors to put it all together. You still could end up with a less than satisfying experience.

P roper management of your project means that all these people need to share all the information about the project and agree on the final product and the means to achieve it. This interminable exchange of information from one to the other is time consuming and, giving each others' specialties and, therefore, limitations of their overall knowledge, could be obstructive in realizing your expectations. Traditional timber framing techniques are very precise and specialized; knowledge that is not necessarily understood by an architect or a designer, unless they have received formal education in the field. Also, the knowledge of the building medium (wood) must be thorough; its properties dictate the engineering principles of the design and, therefore, its esthetics.
T herefore, adapting an architect's design into a compatible timber frame design is tricky, having to confront a series of specific problems that will need to be worked out in the translation of the design, from the architect's vision, to the conceivable timber frame. This will cost in efficiency, time and money. One way to avoid these complications is to choose a builder who can offer all of these services; a builder who has the training and experience to elaborate a design and concept in which all aspects of the project have been simplified.
For example, the crescent shape of this design is based on a symmetrical plan, starting from a center line and fanning out, left and right, so each side mirrors the other; the structure of the bents, angles, joinery and assemblies to the right are the same as on the left, thus simplifying the process of jabbing, cutting and assembly of the sections.

W hen it comes to timber frame constructions, Traditional Timber Frame Homes by Marc Guilhemjouan offers the consumer a worry free alternative to contemporary building methods. By choosing Traditional Timber Frame Homes by Marc Guilhemjouan, you choose your designer, architect, builder, roofer, and general contractor; all in one. Where applicable, all blue prints receive a seal of approval by engineers. Our expertise and training come from French traditions and knowledge which are centuries old, and our designs, philosophy and methods in the field incorporate these traditions.

Traditional Timber Frame Homes by Marc Guilhemjouan will sub-contract to local industry electrical, plumbing, and other services, depending on the specific requirements of the project. If, however, you choose not to opt for the design / build concept for your project, Traditional Timber Frame Homes by Marc Guilhemjouan will work with a designer, architect and engineers of your choice, in helping you realize your dream project.
